Now that we have been running some dungeons and completing a whole lot of quests, I thought it must be time that we discussed loots. While there are many shinies in the game, not all shinies are made equally, so today we are going to have a look at some of the differences between items and whether or not you should be keeping them or selling them off to the nearest vendor. Item Quality WoW helps give us some clues as to whether our loot is worth keeping or not. Item's names will display in differing colours depending upon the item's quality. There are some things to note however. Most profession mats are white quality. Although this is the second lowest quality, these can still be worth quite a lot if you choose to sell them. Also, each expansion comes with its own set of different quality gear, legendary and epic gear that is not from the current expansion is not going to be helpful to you. Common Items at Low Levels That's All Folks So this has been a very brief look at the different qualities of items and whether or not you should keep them. I cannot stress enough that, when in doubt, always search the AH. Are other people selling it? If so then it's likely that you too could make some money selling it on the AH.
Do you have further advice on items you should vendor vs. keep vs. sell on the AH? Please let us know in the comments below. Bye for now and good luck with all the shinies!

So far we've had a look at questing, running dungeons and killing things and so today we are going to take a look at pet battles! Pet battles are another way of gaining experience to level your character. You can find pets to battle all over Azeroth so this might be something you can do as you are questing, battling the pets as you go, or this might be something you choose to do exclusively, maybe while aiming to get the Safari achievements. Getting Started To get started you need to find a battle pet trainer. I used the one located near the Orgimmar flight point but there are others in all major cities. It cost around 10 silver to learn. The battle pet trainer will also sell you a uncommon quality battle pet to get you started. He will then give you a series of quests to help you learn how to pet battle. This series of quests is well worth it as it will teach you the following:
Battle Pet Types & Passive Abilities There are ten different pet families (or types) in the game. Each family has it's own special passive ability. It is important to keep these in mind, especially when your pets hit 25 and are fighting other level 25 pets. Pet Battle Achievements There are a lot of Pet Battle Achievements to be had. There are achievements for how many pet battles you do, how many pets you capture, leveling pets, fighting all of the pet tamers available and for fighting other players. Going for the bigger achievements will easily get you the smaller ones. Since finishing my recording for today's video, I began to work on the Kalimdor Safari which requires you to capture every battle pet available in Kalimdor. Because I am a completionist, I will only capture rare quality pets. I have only been doing pet battles as I run around a zone completing quests towards Loremaster. You can check my progress towards earning this achievement here. So far these are the achievements I have earned. That's All Folks I hope this helps!
Bye for now and good luck with all the shinies! Today we are going to be taking a look at achievements. Achievements are a thing you earn by meeting certain requirements. There are a lot of different achievements to be earned in the game in many different categories. Some of these achievements you will get by just doing your own thing without specifically haven't to try for them and some of them have special requirements that you will need to actively seek out in order to earn them. Let's start by taking a look at the achievements menu. Achievements! To open the Achievements tab press 'Y'. You can only do this after you have earned your first achievement. An easy achievement to earn if you still need one is Represent. On the left of your achievement tab is a list of different categories of achievements (see below). The summary tab will show you the four most recent achievements you have earned. The Progress Overview shows you how many achievements are available in each category (shown in the menu towards the bottom right) and how many of them you have achieved already. Filtering Quests By clicking on each category you will be able to scroll through the individual achievements available. If you only want to see the achievements you have not yet completed (makes things easier if there is a long list of achievements) you can click the drop down menu to choose incomplete. Likewise you can also choose only to see achievements that are completed (see below). Using the search box on the right is an easy way to search for specific achievements. Handy if you want to quickly check if you have completed an achievement and you know the name of it. Tracking Achievements You can track quests just like you track your quests on the right hand side of your screen. By clicking on a quest a box and the world track will appear below the image (see below). Checking this box will make the achievement appear underneath your tracked quests. Tracking achievements can be especially useful when tracking achievements that have multiple requirements. In Wrath some of the achievements require you to meet certain things before killing a boss. The achievement tracker can show you when these requirements have been met. For achievements that are timed, the tracker can show you a count down timer to let you know how much longer you have to complete the requirements. Achievement Overview Video In this video I show you some examples of the achievements you can earn. I also show you how to track achievements and you can see them appear on the right side of my screen. That's All Folks I hope this brief overview has helped. I recommend you have a play around with it and set it up how you like. Let me know what achievements you are tracking in the comments below!
Bye for now and good luck with all the shinies! Each zone, apart from the starting areas, has an achievement earned by completing a certain amount of quests in that zone. Because I am a blood elf, the next zone after completing the starting zone is Ghostlands and so this will be the first quests complete achievement I do. You need to complete 50 quests in order to get this achievement. Please note that this is a horde only questing area and cannot be completed by alliance players and alliance players do not have this achievement available to them. The Ghostlands is home to both blood elves and undead. The main city is called Tranquillien and houses the zones only flight point (that will be used for loremaster there is another located outside the dungeon Zul'aman). Tranquillien is also the name of the faction that resides here. Completing quests will grant reputation and completing all of the quests in this zone will bring you to max exalted. This took me one more quest beyond receiving the achievement. As you progress through the reputation levels (see my blog Represent! for more information about reputation levels) you can visit Provisioner Vredigar to purchase equipment. I personally wouldn't recommend buying gear at this level but perhaps you might like the appearances. Ghostlands Questing and Exploration Video LoremasterQuesting in this zone is pretty straight forward. The main questing hub is Tranquillien but there is also another quest hub at Farstrider Enclave. There are just a few random quest givers around the zone so I have made a short video to show you where they are or you can just look at the map below which indicates where they are but gives you less information (like which quests you might be completing in the area). Tips
ExplorationBy the time I had completed all the quests in this area I was only left with two areas need to be discovered. The first was 'Amani Pass', this area hold the level 85 heroic dungeon Zul'Aman. The second area was Thalassian Pass, which is the path at the very south of the zone leading to the Eastern Plaguelands. I created the map below to indicate where each area you need to discover is located. My ImpressionsAs with a lot of classic zones, I found that quests were really all over the place. Often I would complete a quest and then get sent back to the same (or a very nearby) area. I am not sure if this is just how it is or if it was because I was getting too high level for the zone. I also feel that until the last few bosses there isn't really a major story here. There is a town and you need to help them but everyone seems to be doing their own thing and it doesn't really tie together. Even the last few quests is just 4 or so quests that get you on your way to go to the place with the major bad guy (and kill him), nothing to do with all the kill this and loot that quests you did before. That's All Folks Have you completed Loremaster? Let me know your thoughts on the zone in the comments below!
Bye for now and good luck with all the shinies! Today we are doing a run of Deadmines. Deadmines is a pirate themed dungeon, with parrots and a pirate ship, cannons and a murloc in a cooking pot (for real). This dungeon does have a heroic version that was added in Cataclysm with an extra boss, but today we are just running the normal version available from level 15-21. The Entrance Deadmines is located underneath the town Moonbrook located in Westfall in the Eastern Kingdoms. The entrance is inside a cave that can be found by entering one of the buildings in the town. Until LFG (Looking for Group) made queuing for dungeons and finding groups to run dungeons a lot easier, this dungeon was not usually run by horde players because Westfall is an alliance zone and there is no horde quests here. It is not however an alliance dungeon so you will find quests inside as a horde player! The Run The run through Deadmines is very straight forward. I want to say it is impossible to get lost, but I'm sure there are people out there that could manage to do so. There are 5 bosses in the normal version. Like in most low level dungeons, none of the bosses do anything special. Near the Foe Reaper 5000 you will kill some adds that look a bit like scarecrows with large claws. I know in the heroic version you can enter them like a vehicle and use them to dps the boss. I'm not sure if that is doable in normal (I didn't try because I was tanking) but you might want to give it a try (and let me know in the comments below if you can do this!). On your run across the docks to board the ship there are patches of what looks like burnt ground. This is where the cannons shoot. If you are running over these and get hit by a cannon you will get knocked into the water and have to swim back to the start of this area to get back on the dock, so try to avoid walking over these if you can. Like many of the dungeons at this level, the quest givers will show up after you have killed the last boss and allow you to hand in your quests. The Video Below is the video of my run. Tips! One thing I really recommend you do before going into any dungeon is to clear you bags of all the dodgy items you are carrying (vendor all your greys and unneeded gear!) and repair! You never know what might happen during the run. People get disconnected often enough that you might find yourself in the middle of a boss fight without a healer or someone might be nice enough to pull half the instance and wipe your team. If you are heading in with yellow gear then soon enough it will turn red and nothing is squishier than a tank with no gear! Some quests might require you to carry an item and if your bags are full then it will cost you time making space for it. As you saw if you watched the video, it took me time to clear my bags (lucky there is a vendor in that dungeon!) and the team started without me. Not that that is a big deal at low level as a healer should be able to keep dps alive if they are impatient and pull without you. At higher levels however, people will wait for you and often not be polite about it. That's It Folks I hope you've found this video helpful. Got any other tips for beginner's starting to run dungeons? Let us know in the comments below. Bye for now and good luck with all the shinies! In our World of Warcraft for Beginners blog we worked on getting to level 15. Then we learned how to Represent a faction to gain reputation in dungeons and so now it is time to start putting it all together and get to running some dungeons! Our first dungeon on the list is Ragefire Chasm, it is the lowest level dungeon available and is usually the first one you will get if you queue for a random dungeon at level 15. It is a horde dungeon however so if you are alliance you might get lucky and skip it, this being lucky because it only has quests for horde players so you will be missing out on the extra xp! Queuing for the Dungeon
Before you can queue you must choose your role, are you going to tank, or heal or dps? You can choose more then one role (or all of them) and leave it up to wow to decided what they need. The flag box is to indicate that you know the dungeon and you are happy to lead people through if they don't know where they are going. Ragefire ChasmLike I said, Ragefire Chasm is a horde dungeon (the only horde dungeon). It is located underneath Orgrimmar. Like many dungeons, it has a 'breadcrumb' quest. Enemies Below can be picked up by one of the leaders of the horde. In Ogrimmar, that person (it has changed a few times so I won't name names) is located in Gromosh hold, the building in the centre of the city area you walk into from the front gate. Not having the quest is not going to affect anything but if you are a completionist like me you will probably pick it up at some point. If that point isn't before you run this dungeon you can always just zone in as you won't aggro any mobs before you reach the quest givers to turn it in. Ragefire Chasm is located inside the Cleft of Shadows. It is a fairly straight forward dungeon and pretty quick. The run took me around 7 minutes and I was just doing my own thing chatting away and not trying to rush through it. In other words, if you were paying more attention than me I'm sure you could complete it quicker. The dungeon has 3 quests, one which involves killing and looting mobs which you would do anyway, another which involves killing two of the bosses, which you would also do anyway, and the third which has you save some scouts. These can be found along the way and in cages behind the last boss, so nothing you really have to go out of your way for. You will see all this in the video below. Loot EtiquetteI mention this briefly in the video however I just want to go over it again. Because everyone is contributing to the dungeon run and the dungeon's completion, everyone should have an equal chance at getting the loots. Each class wears a different type of loot and so Blizzard makes it so that you cannot need on loot that you cannot equip. However, what if you can equip it? Do you need it or do you greed it? Just because you can equip it doesn't mean you should need it. If it is an upgrade for you no matter the colour, go ahead and need it, but if it's not an upgrade you should always choose greed. While it doesn't really matter at low levels because the greens aren't worth much gold anyways, at higher levels players will tend to get upset if you need on everything. Dungeons have a 'vote to kick' option and you will most likely get kicked out of the dungeon if you do. This will give you a 30 minute debuff preventing you from queuing for a dungeon during that time. Also, I guess it does kind of matter even at low levels because of the honor of the thing. It is just a game, but maybe it is also a reflection of the kind of person you are. Just some food for thought. :) Until We Meet AgainNow that you are running dungeons I'd love to know your thoughts on them! Which is your favourite? Which do you hate? Keep an eye out for more dungeon guides coming soon!
Bye for now! Good luck with all the shinies!
Each continent in Azeroth has it's own achievement for going on safari. And what are you going to see on safari? Battle pets of course! You do need to do more than just see these battle pets however, you must collect them! By collecting one of each of the battle pets located on a continent will net you the achievement for that continent.
This blog will be a work in progress and updated regularly with my progress. Because I am a completionist, I am only going to capture rare quality pets. The list below will tell you where I captured each pet. Keep in mind though that many pets have different places they can be captured so this is not an extensive list of where to find each pet, only a list of where I captured a rare quality pet of that type. Kalimdor Safari
Below is google document I have been using to track the pets I catch. If this is does not load properly for you, please click here to view this document.
Where have you found your rares? Let us know in the comments below!
Bye for now and good lucky in getting your shinies! There are many factions in World of Warcraft. Grinding (gaining) reputation with factions gives you access to goodies bought from their quartermaster. Each character starts off with reputation from the 7 different races that make up their faction. Today we are going to take a look at reputations, how to gain reputation, how to track the reputation you are gaining, how you can gain reputation in dungeons from level 15 and why you might like to do so. I made a video to explain as well as show people where to find the tabards to gain experience in dungeons. Reputation Levels Most factions start out at either neutral of friendly. Keep in mind however that just as you can grind rep up, you can also do things to lose your reputation! The table below shows you the points of reputation you must grind to either increase or decrease your reputation with a faction. Tracking Reputation You can track your reputation in order to place a bar above your experience bar. This is handy if you are going to run dungeons to level your main faction reps as it will easily allow you to see when you hit max and remind you to change tabards! Earning Reputation in Dungeons Some factions allow you to equip their tabard which will grant you experience for every mob you kill in a dungeon. This can be an easy way to grind their rep. The 7 main race reputations for your faction allow you to do this. Their tabards can be purchased with neutral reputation from their quartermaster. These quartermasters are usually located near the flight point for the major city they reside in. These quartermasters will also sell you a 16 slot bag at revered reputation. As a low level or new player these will be the easiest and cheapest bags you can get. Each tabard costs 9 silver and 50 copper, so you will need 66 silver and 50 copper to by them all. You don't need to buy them all at once like I did in video, you can buy one at a time, doing so will save you bag space! Once you've finished with them you can sell them to get 2 silver and 50 copper back. I know this is all a small amount of money but when you're a beginner every silver is precious! Other Ways of Earning Reputation If dungeons just aren't your thing or if you are also keen on doing achievements including Loremaster then fear not! Different factions have different ways for you to earn reputation with them. For the 7 main factions you can also complete quests in Kaladimor or Eastern Kingdoms to earn reputation. Different zones will give you different rep depending on the type of quests givers. Generally, if they are undead they will grant you reputation with Undercity, if they are orcs they will grant you rep with Orgrimmar, etc. Later you will come across some reputations that require you to kill a certain kind of mob to gain reputation. Some factions also have a hub that allows players to complete dailies (the same quest every day) to gain reputation with them. Some reputations can only be gained by running dungeons (no tabard required). Represent! Equipping your first tabard will get you the achievement Represent! There are a few more achievements related to tabards in the game so start collecting them now! You can delete them after you have equipped them if you no longer need them as their appearance will be saved in your appearances tab (Shift P). You will need 30 unique tabards all together to get all of the achievements associated with tabards. Until Tomorrow! So now that we have you well on your way to leveling up and getting all the reps and having the bags to support your looting needs, tomorrow we are going to have to look at running our first dungeon! During the making of this blog I also received the achievement Fashionist: Tabard. This achievement is for equipping 15 tabards. Of course I only equipped 7 but hey.... I'ma take it! Bye for now! Catch you later and enjoy all the shinies! Hello and welcome to World of Warcraft for Beginners! Today we are going to be taking a look at getting started in the game World of Warcraft. This blog will follow my new baby paladin from level 1 to level 15. Along the way we will be looking at creating a new character, changing some settings to improve game play and the different ways you can level your character. I made a video covering this topic so you might just want to go ahead and watch that or else read on! I hope you learn something new! Character Creation The first thing you need to do once you've set up your account, downloaded the game and logged in, is to create your new character! We often refer to these characters as 'toons' in game. Different classes can do different things so I really suggest you click on each on (they will be to the right of your screen) and read the descriptions. There are four different roles a character can play, but not all classes can play them (in fact only druids can play all four). A tank's job is to 'aggro' mobs (things that want to punch you) and have them punch them in the face so they aren't punching other people in the face. A healer's job is to heal people and keep them alive, especially tanks who are getting punch in the face but also other dps (damage do'ers) who are probably standing in the fire. A melee dps gets up close and personal with mobs while punching them in the face while range dps stands at a distance. Players in these roles work together to kill the bad guys and loot the treasure. Yay shinies! When creating a new character you must choose a faction, Alliance or Horde. These factions cannot interact with each other so if you have a friend who you want to play with in game you will both need to be in the same faction. This will only show a general image of the race and class that you have highlighted. These can be further customized but clicking on the 'customize' button. On the customize screen you can alter your toon's skin colour, the look on their face, their hair style and colour and give them earrings. Or you can just click the randomize button to have it randomize these things for you. Once you've finished customizing your toon, name it and click finish! You now have your new toon! Enter the world to watch a cut scene that gives some history about your race and it's current circumstances. Gaining Experience to Level Up your Toon
Questing and killing mobs are the only way to gain experience (xp) until level 5, at this point if you have 10g you can learn how to do pet battles which will also give you some xp. At level 10 you unlock battle grounds. These are player vs. player where the horde battle the alliance to win the day. These do also provide some experience although not as much as questing or dungeons do. Finally at level 15 you unlock dungeons. Most dungeons have quests to complete during your first run (until you hit level 90). Queuing for random dungeons in 'Looking for Group' also grants a bonus amount of xp and a satchel that contains a piece of random gear (which you can sell for gold if you don't need it!). I recommend that you quest until you hit level 15 and after then start running dungeons. If you are having slow queue times make sure you continue to quest while you are waiting for your queue to pop. Once you hit legion however (That's level 98) it is much faster to just quest and only run dungeons when you get a quest for one. Recommended Settings Changes Auto Loot There are some settings changes that I recommend you make to make things easier for you while you are playing. Firstly, turn on 'Auto Loot'. When you first start playing you need to either click on a mob that you've killed to bring up the loot and then click on each piece of loot to get it, or hold down shift and click on the mob. To make it easier you can turn on Auto Loot and then you will just need to click on the mob once to automatically loot everything you can. Extra Action Bars Next turn on some extra action bars. While you might not need them during the early levels of the game, eventually you will have a lot of spells and profession logs that you will want to access quickly. You can also add other items to these bars like potions, food and other consumable items. I always put my hearth stone on these bars for easy access too. I tend to horde a lot of ... well junk... and so searching through my bags can be time consuming and generally a hazard that I try to avoid. That's All Folks So this is some basic stuff to get you started. There is a lot of other things to do in WoW other than just leveling of course but making it to level 110 (that's the max level) generally makes doing other things a lot easier. One of the things I do love to do is get achievements, a lot of the blogs to come will be about that! Here are all the achievements I earned leveling from level 1 to 15: Look out for tomorrows blog where we run our first dungeon!
Bye for now, see you later and good luck with all the shinies!! P.S Don't forget to log out each time in an inn! This will allow you to accumulate rested xp which is bonus xp that will help you level faster! P.P.S Got any tips for beginners? Discover something new by pressing all the buttons? Let us know in the comments below!
I might also do some non gaming blogs. I have recently learned how to draw. Yes I know you're probably thinking that everyone know how to draw, but I would totally beg to differ. Drawing is a skill and without regular practice and knowing some technical things, stick figure aliens, a funny looking frog and small simple flowers where the only thing that I could draw. I'm not brilliant, still can't draw a straight line to save my life but, I am getting there. I also like to mess around on Photoshop. I love graphics and since I have been drawing, I have also been working on learning how to use it and how to turn my drawings into graphics. I am all self taught at this point so I'm sure I make everything ten times harder than it needs to be, but I really do enjoy it so I keep at it and try to figure things out when I get stuck. Is Mindrah your real name?
Going off on a slight tangent, I was totally going to write 'her story', a series of fantasy books about saving the world (of course). If I ever do actually get around to this, you guys can totally tell everyone you knew me before I was famous! Anyway, I have decided to pull my alter ego out of the closet and use her for this. Games are a way to help people get out of themselves. To forget about the struggles of the day. To just relax and enjoy the ride. And what better way to do that then to turn yourself into someone else for a little while. Why Stuff & Junk & Things Now as to the name of the blog. As you will find out if you follow this blog, I can often be very horrible at words. Sometimes my brain decides randomly to stop for a bit and so if i am trying to explain something I start using the word things a lot. You know... like the stuff and the things? Or the thing with the things? I do know words, but things is such an easier thing to say. And seems my guildies (people I play with) in WoW can understand what I am saying and often interpret it for others, when it came time to move to a new guild and give it a name we were all chatting away giving out ideas and all of a sudden they started picking on me about the things and the next thing you know they've named the guild after me, Stuff & Things & Junk. I am quite horrible at naming things so as I sat here trying to name my blog... well... I totally ninja'd my guilds name. But in my defense, they did name it after me. :D I think the name suits because I like to do a lot of different things and so the name really encompasses everything! No matter what I decide to blog about, it will fit because it will be stuff, or things but most likely junk. ;) World of Warcraft
Bye for now, see you later, and good luck with all the shinies!
